DPX Mounting Medium is a synthetic, non-aqueous resin-based mountant designed for permanent mounting of routinely stained histopathology sections. Its medium viscosity allows controlled spreading beneath the coverslip while providing clear tissue visualization and long-term preservation. DPX-type mountants typically have a refractive index around 1.52, close to that of glass, supporting clear microscopic imaging.

After staining, dehydration and xylene clearing, a small quantity of DPX is applied between the specimen and coverslip. The medium spreads across the tissue section and fills the optical space between the slide, specimen and coverslip. As the volatile solvent evaporates, the synthetic resin hardens to form a clear, permanent protective layer, allowing microscopic examination and preservation of the stained section.
