Southgate Mucicarmine Stain Kit
Southgate Mucicarmine Stain Kit is a specialized histochemical staining system for the demonstration of epithelial mucin in tissue sections. It is particularly useful in the histopathological evaluation of mucin-producing adenocarcinomas and for demonstrating the characteristic mucopolysaccharide capsule of Cryptococcus.

- Southgate Mucicarmine uses an aluminium-carmine lake complex to selectively bind to acidic epithelial mucins and certain polysaccharide-rich structures. Following staining, mucin is demonstrated in a characteristic rose-red/red coloration, while appropriate counterstaining provides contrast with nuclei and other tissue components. The method can also highlight the polysaccharide capsule surrounding Cryptococcus organisms.
