Cyto-Fluid Fixative Solution is a Saccomanno-type cytology fixative designed for the collection, preservation and transport of cellular material from sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial washings and body-fluid specimens.
Its alcohol-based fixation system helps stabilize cellular morphology while polyethylene glycol helps protect cells from drying and supports efficient concentration of cellular material during cytological processing.

The alcohol component rapidly fixes and stabilizes cellular structures, helping preserve nuclear and cytoplasmic morphology. Polyethylene glycol (Carbowax) acts as a protective component that helps reduce drying-related changes and assists in maintaining cellular material during specimen processing.
After fixation, the specimen can be processed by appropriate laboratory methods such as centrifugation, filtration or cytocentrifugation, followed by preparation of cytology slides. Before staining, residual polyethylene glycol should be removed according to the laboratory’s validated processing procedure. Collection procedures commonly use centrifugation to concentrate the cellular sediment.
