Cytocare Wet Fixative
95% Ethanol is a conventional alcohol-based wet fixative widely used for routine cytological preparations, including PAP smears and other exfoliative and aspiration cytology specimens. Immediate fixation helps preserve cellular morphology and nuclear chromatin detail before staining.

- 95% ethanol acts primarily as a coagulative/dehydrating fixative. It removes water from cells and precipitates cellular proteins, stabilizing cellular structures and producing the characteristic crisp nuclear detail required for cytological evaluation.
- Freshly prepared smears should be immersed immediately in the fixative, before significant air-drying occurs. For routine wet fixation, approximately 15–30 minutes is commonly used, depending on the validated staining protocol.
